Rellies Visit - 9. September, 2007

My favourite Auntie and Uncle came to S.A. for the weekend, we were lucky enough to catch up with them for lunch on O'Connell street with Nanna, Poppa, Ellie, Jordan and Nathan - thanks guys and no more complaining about the lack of blogging cause these fotos will be up before you even get home!!! Snow - 2007

Uni holidays - they never seem long enough!!! i dont know how many times ive heard that uni students are "always on holidays" - not true!!! Those so called things the university delegates to 'holidays' are used by students all over for revision work, supplementry exams, working (so that you can survive the next couple of months) or catching up on sleep.

However, mum and dad were kind enough to invite me on their holiday to Bright in the first week of the uni holidays. Ok...so uni students dont spend all their time doing the above - but i just want to point out that this is the first family holiday ive been on (or holiday for that matter) since 2002.

So...early Sunday morning Mum, Dad and i packed the car and headed 11 hours to the tiny town of Bright in Victoria. It was one of the cutest little towns ive ever been too and at times reminded me of my time in Duderstadt, Germany during winter - with its frosty mornings and chilly air.

Being near the 'famous' (yes Rike) Australian snow villages of Mt Hotham and Mt Buller the nights got a little chilly - id forgotten just how cold -7 degrees really is. On our arrival Dad proclaimed that this is the town in which he (with or without mum) was going to retire - that was until he got cold when he soon changed his mind.

On the Tuesday - we made our way up to Mt Hotham then on to our friends the Kalei's chateau at Dinner Plain. Ive never had the experience of using chains on the car tyres - but it certainly was worth it, as we drove through sheets of black ice and areas of rather high snowfall. It was there that i had my first taste of 'AUSTRALIAN SNOW'. Mum helped me build a snowman and together we made snow angels and went skiing and toboggoning on the learner slope and Dinner Plain. We had the best day - i even managed to make some young friends who showed me the true art of toboggoning!!!

The other days were filled walking, checking out the rather large assortment of variety shops in the town and going for long drives. What can i say about the scenery in this part of the country - it was just BREATHTAKING!!!

After being in Bright 4 nights we went to stay with mum and dad's friends, Denni and Darryl on their farm 'Possum's Reach' near Myrtleford - following that we crossed the border to stay with mum and dads friends Colleen and Paul on their property 'Dalriado' near Culcairn in N.S.W. But first we made a scheduled stop in Beechworth at the famous bakery - 5 star food there, highly reccommend it to anyone passing through, especially the Vanilla Slice.

After 7 days we headed back to Adelaide (12 hour drive) where we almost ended up getting towed (as Dads car only takes gas and we were near empty when we reached Lameroo and the town had ran out of gas - yes you read that right not just the one service station - the WHOLE TOWN HAD RUN OUT and they were waiting for their tanks to be filled up the following Monday) So, with much caution (70 kms/hr) we drove on to the next town in the hope that our small amount of gas would make it there - luckily for us it did and we didnt end up needing the RAA.

So, 6.30pm that night we made it back to the Festival State and all jumped into our own beds!!! Yay, was one of the best holidays ive ever baan on! Thanks Mum and Dad - we'll be sure to do it again soon.

Ice Skating, July 2007

After movies in the morning ('The Fantastic Four'), Charlene, Diane and I, spent the afternoon at Mount Thebarton, Ice Skating. It took me a little while to finally remember how it was done, but after a few rounds of the rink using a wooden support (designed, i think for small children to use when learning to skate), i soon got back into it and before long we all skating on the advanced rink. Was a great day girls, next holidays - Ten Pin Bowling.

Not a lot going on down South!!!

Well...finally. Uni is over for the semester and i again have time to do things that i want -like just sitting around doing nothing if it so takes my fancy!!!

not a lot to report from here, other than, man it's cold here in the south. sleeping with a doona,three blankets and a heater going is still not thawing me out. dont know what it will be like when i head further south, when i go home next weekend - but we will have the fire which will be one saving grace!!!

Neish, i am so excited to see you in the coming days and hope that you make more trips to the southern state - i feel so sorry for you, if i am feeling the cold this much - what's it going to be like for you coming from sunny Queensland??? Remember to pack your warmest clothes!!! (i am so excited that finally after 6 months you updated your rather neglected blog - go you!!! [not that i can really talk!]

To Muppy, thank you so much for the wonderful engagement party - it was awesome and i hope all the photos turned out - are you able to email a few my way if you get the opportunity. Hi to your mum and dad as well, and have a great time in Melbourne - it will be great!!!
